Pop star Lady Gaga feels that it is "entertainment for people" to poke fun at her and in the process, the critics do not have a slightest idea how hard she works. But the "Applause" singer says that it really does not bother her much and gives her an idea as "where we are as a society."

Gaga has just released her new single "Applause" some time back which got lot of reviews (both good and bad) but has not reached the top selling position in music charts worldwide. This has given chance to many of her critics (including celebrity blogger Perez Hilton) to write her career off and call her a flop.

Not many of her critics realise that the single and now her iTunes performances is actually Gaga's comeback to the music scene after her hip surgery that forced the pop icon to take a hiatus from music scene and even cancel her tour in February.

"Yes! I certainly feel that at this time it's almost as if people are surprised they haven't already destroyed me," Gaga revealed in a candid interview with The Guardian.

The singer then says that making an album is a lot of hard work and the critics who call her a flop actually have no idea what her work is all about (Perez are you listening?)

"It gives them a sense of pleasure when they believe that they've destroyed me or taken me down. It's almost entertainment for people to poke fun at Lady Gaga, but at the very same time they have no idea the album I've made," she continues.

"They have no idea what I put into this; they have no idea the work that I've put behind my performances and what I do. In fact, people have no idea what it really took for me to get here. So it doesn't bother me, it's just an interesting observation of where we are as a society," Gaga added.

The interviewer questioned her about the lukewarm response to her latest single "Applause," which many feel has been beaten down by her rival Katy Perry's "Roar" that reached number 1 position in music charts. Gaga believes that people are now more focused on how her music is doing in the numbers chart rather than what it is all about.

"It's literally not even been two weeks since my first single came out and it's all, 'She's over', or because I'm not No 1 yet, 'She's finished'. People focus less on the music and focus more on how the music's doing; how it's faring from a numbers perspective, from a financial perspective."

Gaga also believes she does not need to prove anything to anyone as she has had her time when many of her songs were topping the charts.

"I think that once you've had a few No 1s in your career that you've kind of proven yourself and I don't feel the need to prove anything anymore," Gaga added.

The "Born This Way" artist has recently previewed seven new numbers from her upcoming album "ARTPOP" at Sunday's iTunes festival in London. The album is due in late October/November. Listen to her songs here
