Pope Francis Person of the Year 2013: Top 5 Reasons Why the Pope Deserves the Top Spot
Pope Francis has beaten several major personalities like Miley Cyrus, Edward Snowden and President Obama to the highest rank of Time's 2013 Person of the Year list. For anyone who is not convinced of the final choice, here are top 5 reasons to convince the skeptics on how impressive the Pope's run was for 2013:
1. The Pope has reached the Internet.
It could not be denied that he was the most popular person online aside from the fact that he was also the most talked about individual on social media, according to the recent 2013 summary of Facebook. This is not at all easy especially if you will be competing against the most controversial people of this year like Miley and her twerking antics. Not to mention the fact that he has done the first papal selfie way before U.S. President Obama made such noise for his selfie with other world leaders during the Nelson Mandela memorial service.
2. The Pope loves people and they love him back.
According to Time, it took a quick time for the Pope to win back those who have given up having faith on the church. All throughout this year, he was just seen kissing babies, trending with the teenies, shaking hands and even relating to the most ordinary of sinners. When it comes to loving people, the Pope is one pro.
3. The Pope is so cool.
No one can ever deny that Pope Francis is so cool especially when he admitted how he used to do many odd jobs during his younger years like being a floor sweeper, running some tests in the laboratory and even working as a bouncer in a bar located in Buenos Aires. Then of course, there's the fact that he loved playing basketball too, making him such a big sports fan.
4. Pope Francis has a lot of sense of humour in him.
Unlike other huge personalities in the world, he is never afraid to appear silly and funny at times. During an Italian charity that uses humour to uplift sick kids, he joined in by not hesitating to wear a clown nose. Now that's a first of his kind.
5. The Pope is open to adjusting to new things for the modern times.
When the Vatican started sending out questionnaires to bishops from all around the globe, it shocked everyone to know that it addresses all kinds of family issues like same-sex marriages and divorce. He has even called on to priests to give baptism to babies even if the parents are not married or maybe divorces.
All these top 5 reasons would have probably convinced you enough of why Pope Francis was hailed as 2013 Person of the Year. Not to completely forget that he even reached out to Muslims at the end of this year's Ramadan.
