Haiyan made its first landfall in the Philippines at Guiuan, the surfing capital of Eastern Samar, with 315km/h (195mph) winds. If verified, Haiyan is the strongest tropical cyclone to make landfall on record, the last recorded cyclone has a wind of 305 km/h (190mph) set by Hurricane Camille in 1969.

Due its massive destruction in Central Philippines that left Tacloban City flattened to its ground, the death toll is estimated to reach 10,000 in Tacloban alone.
