"My Love From Another Star," also known as "Man From The Stars," starring popular Korean actors Kim Soo-hyun and Jun Ji-hyun, was a huge hit in South Korea. Now, this 21-episode drama, which aired between Dec. 2013 and Feb. 2014 in South Korea, is set to get an American adaptation.
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that ABC will be remaking this fantasy love story and it has an inked on a "script commitment," with a "penalty attached." According to the report, Ji-eun Park, creator of the Korean version, will be donning the hat of the executive producer for this American version. Also, Bomi Moon, from the producing house HB Entertainment, which owns the rights of the original drama, will be joining him as executive producer. Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain are co-writing the American version and they will exec produce, as well.
In the Korean version of "My Love From Another Star," Kim Soo-hyun plays the main character called Do Min-joon, an alien who landed on the earth 400 years ago and was unable to go back. Jun Ji-hyun plays his love interest, Cheon Song-yi, in the modern time. She is a popular actress, with a quirky personality and is often misunderstood. Do Min-joon finds himself drawn towards Cheon Song-yi, though he does not want to get involved with humans and is returning to his planet soon. As Cheon Song-yi has evidence against the main antagonist of the drama, she is the target of multiple murderous attacks. Do Min-joon, who has supernatural abilities, always appears to protect her whenever she is in trouble.
The two characters of the American version are called James and Lark. According to THR, ABC describes the show as an "epic supernatural love story about a world-famous actress, Lark, and her anti-social neighbor, James, who happens to be from another planet."
The description says that James is "disillusioned by the pettiness of human nature" and has a "centuries-old rule that he will never use his abilities to intervene in the lives of the people around him."
However, he has to break that rule when he gets the premonition that the "infuriatingly self-centered but compelling Lark is going to be murdered." And, "James finds himself drawn into her chaotic life and falling deeply in love -- just as he finally has the chance to return to his home in the stars."
