'Porn and Pizza': Gay Rights Club Hosts Event for Sexual Health
It was a university event which promised three things: pizza, porn and sexual health.
The Bisexual, Gay, Lesbian, Straight Alliance (BGLSA) of the University of South Carolina organised an event on Tuesday night for having an open discussion on sexual orientation with visual references from pornographic material, both homosexual and heterosexual. In addition, they offered pizza to all the participants, according to The Daily Gamecock, the student newspaper.
Mason Branham, the president of the club, informed that the chief purpose of the gathering was to let participants be informed about healthy sexual practices while analysing pornographic videos. The organisers were, however, quite aware that minors might try to attend the gathering because of the nature of the programme. The authorities checked IDs before allowing anyone to be a part of this unique party as one had to be an adult (18+) to be able to take part in the event.
The laptop which was used to view pornographic videos used a portable hot spot instead of the campus Wi-Fi. Mr Branham said that BGLSA was quite aware of the risks would have been involved if they used the campus Wi-Fi. Anyone in the school dorm could have watched the same using the Wi-Fi. Nevertheless, the hot spot worked as an extra security measure, he said.
The event started by showing clips from the movie Mean Girls. It was informed that the characters in the movie, who get involved in sex, were forced to face pregnancy as well as death. It was followed by Fact or Crap, an interactive game which gave valuable information on various issues related to sexual health.
The main part of the event consisted of an informative group discussion called Case Studies, anchored by Kaitlyn Jones and Mr Branham. The discussion analysed differentiated views on sexual health.
The BGLSA was aware of the probable miscommunication which might have been caused by the title of the event. That is why they informed the expected attendees on their Facebook page that the event was not designed to promote any sort of adult entertainment. It was clearly informed that the event will focus mainly on sexual health.
Later on, BGLSA thanked everyone on Facebook for being extremely mature and making the event successful.
