Manchester City has confirmed the signing of Martin Demichelis from Atletico Madrid on Sunday via their website.

The Argentinian played the bulk of his senior years in Bayern, from 2003-2010, playing mainly as a centre back.

City boss Manuel Pelligrini oversaw Martin's career twice, as when he was starting out with River Plate and when he was bought by Malaga.

He comes with a vast experience of club, particularly the Champions League and international football.

Of recent, he was a part of the Malaga club that had a successful run in 2012's edition of the Champions League which saw them reach the quarter-finals against Borussia Dortmund, playing alongside Spanish wonder-kid Isco.

In spite of his achievements, he is still seeking to compete at the highest level possible.

"I am delighted to have joined City because I am still hungry for success and want to improve," said Demichelis.

"I have been in Europe for 11 years now and this was a great chance for me to play in the Premier League with such a big club."

There will be not much of an adjustment to make for the 32-year-old, and he could definitely make an immediate impact in the team.

"When there is a change, there is always a process. There's always a period of adjustment you have to go through. Moving from South America to Europe is a big change and you need some time to settle in because everything is new.

"But in my case, I have lived in Europe for many years and I don't think there'll be any problems in adjusting to life here. Now I want to repay the manager's faith in me out on the pitch. I can't wait to get started."

Demichelis will have an ample time to prepare for City's next premiership game, which will be on Sept 14 against Stoke City.
