President Obama's harsh advice to Anthony Weiner: “If it was me I would resign”
This distraction, President Obama added, could consequently affect Weiner’s performance and priorities as a lawmaker.
President Barack Obama has spoken for the first time on the sexting scandal embroiled by Democrat Congressman Anthony Weiner.
In an interview with NBC’s Ann Curry, the President has candidly revealed his take on the issue, now popularly known as “the Weinergate Twitter scandal”.
President Obama: 'If it was me, I would resign'.
The Chief Executive has left Cong. Weiner no option and he emphasized that resignation is his only way out, underscoring that Weiner’s situation as a ‘distraction’.
This distraction, President Obama added, could consequently affect Weiner’s performance and priorities as a lawmaker.
'When you get to the point where, because of various personal distractions, you can't serve as effectively as you need to at the time when people are worrying about jobs, and their mortgages, and paying the bills — then you should probably step back,' President Obama was quoted as telling NBC in an interview with the Today show.
The President’s hands are tied however and he explained that the ball is now in the court of the people to decide on the embattled congressman from New York, said The Daily Mail.
Weiner has made the headlines for weeks now following the scandalous photos of him that have stormed the web. The House ethics committee has already begun its investigation and Weiner, who vowed to seek personal treatment, has been granted two-weeks leave beginning today.
