And 80% of them are seeking new skills and career development

TRUMBULL, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--#Questionmark--More than one in four (26%) workers look set to quit their job in search of a new challenge as confidence returns to the economy.1 This means employers must prioritize career development if they are to retain their best staff, according to Questionmark, the online assessment provider.

Of those seeking new challenges, 80% say they are concerned about their own career development, according to the Pulse of the American Workers survey. Over 70% are rethinking the skills they need for the modern workforce.2 A separate study for the Achievers Workforce Institute predicts a “turnover tsunami” in 2021 with 52% of workers across North America looking for a new job.3

Lars Pedersen, CEO of Questionmark, said: “After a year of having to stay put, many workers are ready for a new challenge and to develop their skills. If a current employer can’t satisfy this demand to develop, the best staff will look elsewhere.

“Meaningful career development plans must be underpinned by real information about a team member’s current skills’ base. This allows leaders to tailor plans and reassure valued workers that they have a future that’s worth sticking around for.”

Measuring the current skills of workers with online assessments gives employers the information they need to prepare relevant career development plans. Assessments highlight the modern skills team members must develop before being ready to take the next step. Employers can create bespoke training plans.

Further assessments can measure the development of new skills and give an employee confidence that they are making progress toward their goals.
