“Pretty Little Liars” star Lucy Hale could have been Anastasia Steele in the film adaptation of “Fifty Shades of Grey.” The 25-year-old actress wanted to try “something a little different” from her role as Aria Montgomery so she auditioned for the risqué part, but found it was “very uncomfortable.”

In an interview with MTV, Hale admitted that her audition for the coveted role was “awkward.”

“It was just me,” she recalled of her try-out. “It was a two-page monologue of dialogue, of exactly what you think it would be. Very uncomfortable, but it was sort of one of those things where you just had to go for it or you’re just gonna look lame. Hopefully, I didn’t look lame.

“It was unlike any audition I’ve ever done in my life.”

But how racy was the role exactly?

“Let’s just say I don’t want my grandmother watching that audition tape,” Hale laughed.

Hale said that the part she read appeared to be specifically written for the audition or perhaps even from another movie.

She explained that she wanted to try out for the role because she was interested in doing something risky.

“I think any girl in my demographic would have loved to be a part of it. Mainly, I was just interested in doing something risky and doing something a little different than my character on ‘PLL’ so it took me out of my comfort zone.”

The role of Anastasia was eventually given to Dakota Johnson, while the love interest, billionaire tycoon Christian Grey, was first handed to “Sons of Anarchy” star Charlie Hunnam before it was passed to Jamie Dornan.

Hale, meanwhile, has released her first album titled “Road Between,” which peaked at number four at the U.S. country chart.
