Prince Harry disappoints schoolchildren when he said he wouldn’t become king + What he gave Queen Elizabeth for her 90th birthday
Prince Harry has disappointed some children who wanted him to become king someday. And even though the British prince’s chance of sitting on a throne diminishes with every child his brother Prince William produces, he knew how to please the current monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, for her 90th birthday.
He was third in line to the throne when he was born, but since the birth of his nephew and niece Prince George and Princess Charlotte in the past years, his place in the succession line has been pushed to fifth. He isn’t complaining, though. In fact, he seemed relieved when he was previously reminded that his chance at becoming king has reduced following the birth of Charlotte.
However, his sentiment wasn’t shared by some children who expected him to lead in the future.
“Are you ever going to be king?” a 9-year-old boy named Tristan asked him (via the Telegraph) when the royalty visited a primary school in Berkshire.
“That’s the question everybody wanted, let’s be honest!” he laughed. “You’ll be glad to know, probably not!”
Tristan, however, wasn’t glad; he looked disappointed, and this prompted Harry to make a beeline for him across the school hall at Lambs Lane Primary School.
“Oh look at the disappointment!” Harry told the young boy. I love that! I’m going to give you a high five.”
Tristan later said that he would love to see Harry become king someday, but he also liked him to do “what he really, really wants.”
“I think it would be a fun experience for him to be king,” he said.
Harry’s chance at succeeding his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, shrinks as his brother, William, and wife Kate Middleton give birth to more children. His father Prince Charles is the first in line to the throne, followed by William then by George and then Charlotte.
Harry may not have any ambition to lead the monarchy in the future, but in the meantime, he is enjoying his position as the Queen’s grandson.
According to Hello magazine, Harry had the perfect birthday gift to his grandmother, who turned 90 last week. Instead of giving the Queen material things, the prince showed off his theatrical talents at her birthday dinner. He performed a short cabaret with ventriloquist Nina Conti, acting as the dummy.
“It was genuinely brilliant. He must have been practising it because he had to do the actions in time with her speaking. It was intensely funny because he was so good,” a source told the magazine.
