Prince Harry, Meghan Markle boaded economy flight before wedding
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle prove that they are one of the few relatable royals. Before their wedding and before they became the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the down-to-earth duo were reportedly seen boarding a commercial flight to Nice, France, even sitting on the economy section near the toilets.
According to Express, Harry and Meghan once vacationed in Nice before their May wedding. But they didn’t splurge on private jets as expected of people of their wealth and stature. They sat at the economy seating section, and near the toilets no less.
Apparently, Harry tried to be discreet by wearing a baseball cap. Meghan, who reportedly wore a black beanie, was even seated in the dreaded middle seat.
The flights to Nice on British Airways feature economy and business/club seats. With the latter more than triple that of the former’s price, the pair saved about £323 (AU$564) per person. They were also joined by three bodyguards on the flight in January, adds Marie Claire.
Harry and Meghan’s latest public appearance was on Saturday when they attended Harry’s friend Charlie Van Straubenzee’s wedding to Daisy Jenkins in Surrey. The day was also Meghan’s 37th birthday.
Like the rest of the Royal family, the couple wouldn’t be out doing official duties for a while. According to reports, they are currently on their summer break.
The Sussexes weren’t the only Royal family members who ride commercial flights. In 2016, their sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, surprised passengers of a British Airways flight en route from the Netherlands to London when she boarded the plane at the last minute. The Duchess of Cambridge was returning home from her first foreign trip on official royal duties without Prince William when she was escorted onto the plan by her bodyguards and her team. She was also the first one to be whisked away from the plane after the 50-minute flight.
