Finding the perfect baby name isn't really difficult. In fact, thanks to the web and well-known celebrities, it is easy to pick a name for the new bundle of hope in the family. One name that has topped the list of baby names would be of the royal family, Prince Harry.
It would probably be because of Prince Harry and his royal lineage as to why his name topped the list of popular baby names. The popularity of the name could also be related to the success of another British boy by the name of Harry Styles from One Direction.
Another reason to the success of the name Harry in most popular baby names would be its great relation to the world renowned wizard franchise, "Harry Potter."
While Prince Harry and his regal name tops the most popular baby name when it comes males, the female counterpart would be Amelia. Harry and Amelia beat the previous year's popular names which are Oliver and Olivia.
The name Harry places number one with over 7523 while Amelia for the females also at number one has 5054 hits. Oliver and Olivia who were last year's top contenders rank at second place with 7007 and 4938 respectively.
"The popularity of names can be influenced by names of famous figures or current celebrities and what they name their own babies," explained The Office for National Statistics, adding, "However, it is an individual choice which can be influenced by a number of other factors such as the religious, cultural or ethnic identities of the parents or the names of family, friends or fictional characters."
For those curious to know the full list, the popular baby names for males are led by Harry followed by Oliver. Jack comes in at third place with over 6844. The name Alfie is in at fourth place with 5524 while Charlie comes close at fifth with 5516 and Thomas comes short at sixth place with 5353. "Twilight" inspired name, Jacob, comes in at seventh place with 5047. The names James, Joshua and William come in at eight, ninth and tenth place respectively.
As for the popular baby names for females, Amelia leads at number one followed by Olivia. "Harry Potter" inspired name, Lily, comes in at third place with 4761. The name Jessica, Emily, Sophie, Ruby, Grace and Ava come in at fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth place respectively. Another "Twilight" inspired name, Isabella, comes in at tenth place with 3466.
