Prince Harry’s motorcade has been involved in a high-speed crash in London. He was being transported to the Invictus Game in London when one of his police outriders collided head-on with a taxi Wednesday morning.

The Daily Mail reported that the taxi driver was rendered unconscious by the crash on Prince Albert Road around 9:40 am. He had to be cut free from the wreckage by fireman, while the police rider was thrown 30ft down the road.

The 29-year-old royal was not directly involved, and therefore not hurt while riding in a Range Rover. However, he was seen constantly looking backwards at the injured men with “concern etched on his face.”

His driver, who first thought that they were being subjected to a terrorist attack, took immediate evasive action and drove on, only stopping several hundred feet from the accident area along the road.

Other bodyguards and officers assisted the cab driver and the Special Escort Group police rider. The police was discharged from the hospital the same night, while the driver is reportedly in a “stable” condition.

According to the CCTV footage obtained by the Daily Mail, the minicab driver stopped at the junction before pulling right across the main road, straight to the path of the police rider, who was on the wrong side of the road. Although the rider had its police lights on, he did not use sirens.

A Scotland Yard rep said that the condition of both injured parties is not believed to be life threatening.

“I could see Prince Harry clearly in the back of the car with his head in his hands,” a cyclist who witnessed the accident said. “He looked really distressed and was constantly looking back over his shoulder to see what was happening. It was clear that for security reasons he had to stay in the car.”

The Metropolitan Police have also launched an investigation into the accident.

Harry’s spokesman confirmed the collision, telling the Telegraph, “The prince was obviously very concerned and wanted to make sure the men were OK. He is relieved to hear they are both in a stable condition.”
