Prince Harry’s sacrifice when Prince William proposed to Kate Middleton
Prince Harry is truly a great brother for Prince William. The younger British royal had reportedly sacrificed a priceless item so that William could propose to then-girlfriend Kate Middleton in 2010.
It’s no secret that the brothers are very close. Hence, it’s no surprise that Harry had sacrificed something so precious to him just so William could ask Kate to marry him in a grand fashion.
According to the Daily Star, when their mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, passed away in 1997, they were asked to choose one “keepsake” from her belongings. William chose Diana’s Cartier watch, while Harry chose the sapphire and diamond engagement ring their father, Prince Charles, gave to Diana.
The boys apparently had a pact that whoever was the first to propose marriage would take the ring. As it happened, it was William who proposed marriage first. And so Harry gave his brother Diana’s ring so the 35-year-old future king could offer it Kate. William and Kate became engaged in October 2010 during a 10-day trip to Kenya.
The couple now have two children – Prince George and Princess Charlotte – while Harry remains single. He is, however, in a relationship with American actress Meghan Markle, whom he has been dating since last year.
According to reports, the 32-year-old prince is seriously considering proposing to Meghan soon. And apparently, he will choose one of Diana’s tiaras to be remade into an engagement ring for his girlfriend. That is unlikely, though, as the tiaras of the late People’s Princess are property of the Royal family, and not her personal collection.
It is more likely that should the time come when Harry is ready to propose to Meghan, he would commission a ring for her. The Daily Star adds that he has already enlisted the help of Harry Collins, a long-time royal jeweller, to design a piece for his girlfriend. It will apparently feature the emerald diamonds from one of Diana’s bracelets.
