Prince Philip might skip Princess Eugenie’s wedding because of Fergie
Prince Philip might skip Princess Eugenie’s wedding later this year. The Duke of Edinburgh attended Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding in May, but he is speculated to skip his other grandchild’s special day because he apparently couldn’t stand her mother.
The 97-year-old husband of Queen Elizabeth has been retired from royal duties since April following a hip replacement operation. Nevertheless, he still makes occasional public appearances with his family. He sat beside Her Majesty during Harry and Meghan’s wedding in April.
His other grandchild, Eugenie, will also wed this year, but he might not attend it. It’s reportedly because Eugenie’s mother, Sarah, Duchess of York, will certainly be attending the event.
“He does what he wants,” a source told People. “He made a supreme effort for Harry. I would be very surprised if he did go, because he is so estranged from Fergie. I think he will decide at the 99th hour.”
Philip allegedly still hasn’t forgiven his former daughter-in-law for her shenanigans and scandals. While his son Prince Andrew is on good terms with his ex-wife, Philip still doesn’t want anything to do with her.
According to reports, even before Fergie — Sarah’s name as she is dubbed by the media — and Andrew split, she did not have a good relationship with Philip. They merely tolerated each other’s presence. So when Fergie was photographed sunbathing topless with another man while she was still married to Andrew in 1992, her relationship with Philip deteriorated fast.
She was also not invited to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding in 2011 apparently because of an incident the year before when she was filmed accepting money from an undercover reporter in exchange for access to Andrew.
Queen Elizabeth’s relationship with Fergie is said to be not as frosty as her husband’s. According to reports, Her Majesty treats Fergie cordially. She also understands her son’s post-marriage relationship with his ex-wife.
The Queen is expected to attend Eugenie’s wedding in October, but if Philip will be there, it’s still unknown. One thing is for sure, Fergie will not miss her second daughter’s big day.
Eugenie and her fiancé Jack Brooksbank will wed on Oct. 12 at St George’s Chapel at Windsor’s Castle, the same church where Harry and Meghan wed. And like her older cousin, Eugenie is also inviting 1,200 guests from the public to fill the castle grounds.
