Prince William gave Kate Middleton his mother, the late Princess Diana's, engagement ring when he proposed. Prince William and Middleton has today confirmed that they are indeed engaged.

Prince William popped the question while he and Middleton were on a holiday in Kenya. He revealed that he had his mother's engagement ring with him for a long time.

In a briefing with the UK Press Association, Prince William relayed that he was careful not to lose his mother's engagement ring admitting that he would be in a lot of trouble if he ever lose it.

"I had been carrying it around with me in my rucksack for about three weeks before that and I literally would not let it go, everywhere I went I was keeping hold of it because I knew this thing, if it disappeared I would be in a lot of trouble and because I'd planned it, it went fine."

"You hear a lot of horror stories about proposing and things going horribly wrong - it went really, really well and I was really pleased she said yes."

According to recent reports, the royal wedding of Prince William and Middleton is slated in 2011. Previously, it was said that the Prince William and Middleton would wed in 2012, coinciding with Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubillee and the Olympic Games, which the United Kingdom is set to host in the same year.
