Prince William and Kate Middleton's Protection Officer Accidentally Fires Gun [PHOTOS]

One royal protection officer has accidentally fired his gun while patrolling as a protection officer for the royal couple. Could the heads of the royal security handle this kind of publicity?

According to reports, one unlucky protection officer has unfortunately fired his weapon outside Prince William and Kate Middleton's Angesley home. In a stroke of luck, however, nobody was injured during the incidents. It was confirmed that the Duke was not present in the residence during the accident, and that the Duchess was at home.

Security officers then attested to the distance the bullet was fired from the actual cottage of the royal couple. Protection officers are trained before and after their shifts to carefully load, unload, and dislodge their guns, and are heavily instructed to take good caution and responsibility of their weapon.

"This is very uncommon. There have been one or two incidents but it is extremely rare." said Dai Davies, a former Head of Royal Protection to Mirror.co.uk.

"These things are carried routinely throughout the country now by police officers, royalty protection, diplomatic protection and other specialist firearms. And when you think how many times they are loaded and unloaded at the start and beginning of every shift, it is so rare." added Davies in the same report.

So how did it happen?

"How this one went off? He may have been reaching into his pocket to get something, he might have had a pen in his pocket that might have got lodged." continued Davies.

The said pistol is a 9mm Glock, and the officer who has mishandled his weapon has now been relieved from his duty.

"I'm sure those in charge are extremely cross with him, and he's cross with himself. You don't want this publicity." concluded the former head of royal security.

It is a relief that the Duchess was far enough from the area where the gun was fired, but she surely can't escape the bad publicity she has been getting from her sister, Pippa.
