Prince Williams Reveals His Favourite Bands (Hint: It’s Coldplay and Linkin Park)
Prince William is a fan of – gasp! – Linkin Park. The UK prince revealed his music taste during a visit to the Goole High School in East Yorkshire on Wednesday. Oh yes, he also likes Coldplay.
The 31-year-old father of Prince George made the startling admission to the young students when he was asked what bands he likes.
“I really like Coldplay, Linkin Park,” he was apparently heard saying.
Not that there’s anything wrong with his choice. Both bands have chart-topping hits and have won several accolades, including from Grammy Awards.
Coldplay, the British group fronted by Chris Martin, is still a top choice for alternative rock listeners today. However, the same cannot be said for Linkin Park.
For some reasons, various media have been somewhat aghast at the choice. Perhaps it’s because of the U.S. band’s rap-rock-metal musical style. It could also be that it’s just surprising that a man with princely stature as William listens to nu metal.
William previously said that he was not into metal music, though it’s not for the lack of trying.
In April during his tour of Australia, he apparently told a young rapper at a youth centre the kinds of music that he listens to.
“I quite like house music,” he was quoted by PopSugar as saying. “I like my house music. I like a bit of rock and roll, a bit of R&B. I’m not a big heavy metal fan. I’d like to be, but I’m not.”
Meanwhile, William was said to be wowed by a portrait of wife Kate Middleton in Scotland.
Artist Tom Sutton-Smith created his version of the Duchess of Cambridge’s official portrait, and the result was well received by the prince.

While Sutton-Smith did not see the reaction of the Duke and Duchess in person, he was shown a video of them during the portrait’s presentation.
According to Glenys Andrews, the chair of Perthshire Open Studios and the artist’s colleague, William exclaimed, “Wow, it’s brilliant! That’s going up in my room.”
Kate, on the other hand, “lit up” when she saw the portrait.
“She reached out her arms to hold it and stared at it,” Andrews claimed.
