Princess Charlene of Monaco's younger brother Gareth Wittstock marries girlfriend
After the royal wedding of Pierre Casiraghi of Monaco with Italian heiress Beatrice Borromeo, Monaco royals had yet another occasion to celebrate with another summer wedding. This time around, Princess Charlene’s brother got married to his long-time girlfriend.
Gareth Wittstock, younger brother of Charlene tied the knot with his sweetheart Roisin Gavin at the town hall in Monaco on Thursday. The 34-year-old computer specialist has a two-year-old daughter, Kaia-Rose with Gavin.
The intimate wedding was presided over by Monaco’s Mayor Georges Marsan, according to the Monaco Matin newspaper. The publication hinted at the fact that it was a prelude to a bigger wedding celebration at the Grand Hotel Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat on Friday.
The noon civil wedding was followed by a much bigger celebration the next day with family and friends attending the couple’s big day, People reported.
The former Olympic swimmer representing South Africa has two younger brothers – Gareth and Sean. While the former got married now to his 32-year-old girlfriend, Sean, 32, the youngest got married in 2013.
Meanwhile, Gareth is very close to his sister and works with her in her charities. Like his sister, his upbringing was also in South Africa, but now he lives in Monaco.
In May, he was announced as a godfather to his niece, Princess Gabriella. In July, he showered lots of praise on Charlene for her heartfelt speech. The 37-year-old royal gave a touching tribute to her husband Prince Albert II of Monaco, 56, for completing 10 years on the throne.
“I think it was very spectacular. What she did, speaking in French,” said the brother. He told that it was a very difficult language to master and she did a great job, adding that Monaco was very proud of her.
The Monaco royals had several reasons to celebrate this year. Albert’s nephew Casiraghi, 28, got married to his fiancé Borromeo on July 25 in a civil ceremony.
Later the couple jetted off to Italy to have a big wedding, a religious ceremony in Borromeo Islands, owned by the bride’s family. The second wedding celebration even had medieval sword fighting.
Earlier, in December 2014, Albert and his wife Charlene welcomed their twins Princess Gabriella and Prince Jaques.
