Princess Charlotte's Christening Date Revealed
Princess Charlotte will be christened at St. Mary Magdalene Church at the Queen’s Sandringham estate in Norfolk. It is the same church where her late grandmother Princess Diana was baptised. The service for the little royal will be held on July 5, Kensington Palace said in a statement on Friday.
Prince William’s mother Diana was born at Park House, which is also on the Sandringham estate. Charlotte will however, follow the footsteps of Princess Eugenie, 25, whose christening ceremony was also held there. The palace confirmed the ceremony will be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby, who baptized Prince George in October 2013.
The ceremony will be a private one, but the portraits of the service, like those taken of smiling George and his family, will be released to the public later on. Welby was “delighted” to be asked to conduct the tiny royal’s baptism. “It will be an extraordinary honour and privilege to help welcome the princess into the family of the church,” he said.
Charlotte, like brother Prince George and other royal children, will be dressed in a family heirloom. The one-month-old is expected to be christened in the traditional christening gown, which was designed by the Queen's assistant, Angela Kelly, and Buckingham Palace's team of dressmakers in 2008 and based on a christening gown commissioned by Queen Victoria in the 19th century. The royals will also take the famous Lily Font with them for the service, according to People.
There is speculation among royal watchers about who will be asked to take the official pictures for the little princess’s christening. During George’s baptism, award-winning photographer Jason Bell was appointed for the job.William and Kate Middleton’s daughter was born at St. Mary’s Hospital on May 2. Just 10 hours after giving birth, the Duchess of Cambridge left the hospital looking gorgeous in a floral white and yellow Jenny Packman dress.
“It’s the first time he’s been quiet all day,” William had joked inside the Chapel Royal at St. James’ Palace, during Prince George’s baptism. His christening was an intimate affair, with only 23 guests present. In addition to the royal family and the Middleton family, George’s seven godparents and the six spouses among them and William’s former nanny turned George’s part-time nanny, Jessie Webb, marked the celebration.
