The serial drama series “Prison Break” will return as a 10-episode limited series on Fox. Chairman and CEO Gary Newman confirmed the show’s revival in an interview at the Television Critics Association (TCA) summer press tour on Thursday.

Newman totally expects the “Prison Break” revival to get a hold of a straight-to-series order, according to a report from Deadline. Series creator and executive producer Paul Scheuring is currently working on the first episode of the “Prison Break” sequel event series.

Fox Television Group co-chairman Dana Walden revealed in a Moviefone report that the “Prison Break” sequel will pick up several years after what happened in the “Prison Break” finale. Walden also confirmed that cast members Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell will return to reprise the roles of siblings Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows.

“I don't think [executive producer producer] Paul [Scheuring] knows exactly where he's going over the 10-episode arc, but it definitely will address some questions that were set up at the end of the series for a new audience,” Walden said in the Moviefone report. Michael Scofield met his end in the wrap-up film “Prison Break: The Final Break” but the upcoming sequel will most likely disregard the character’s death.

A few of the iconic characters in “Prison Break” will also return for the sequel which is modelled after the successful limited television series titled “24: Live Another Day.” However, Newman and Walden did not disclose during the TCA summer press tour the other cast members set to return in the “Prison Break” sequel.

Newman also revealed that Scheuring pitched a very reasonable and realistic explanation as to why the “Prison Break” characters are still alive and moving around the world. The “Prison Break” sequel event series is scheduled to air in 2016.

The exact details of the “Prison Break” sequel’s airing schedule are still unknown at the moment but Fox is expected to unveil information soon. Aside from the “Prison Break” sequel, fans can also watch Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell as the main villain characters Leonard Snart/Captain Cold and Mick Rory/Heat Wave, respectively, in the upcoming CW TV series titled “Legends of Tomorrow.” Captain Cold and Heat Wave were previously seen in some episodes of “The Flash” starring Grant Gustin.
