Project Aware – Dive Against Debris Month in September
The call is out for scuba divers all over Australia to participate in Dive Against Debris. So grab your gear and hit the water as our ocean needs you!
Project AWARE are introducing Dive Against Debris, a year-round data and debris collection effort to reduce the devastating impacts of debris each time we dive. But in order to be successful, we need your help in testing and providing feedback about the new program!
If we're going to help change waste management policies, we need underwater data that paints a true picture of debris issues beneath the surface.
Throughout the month of September, Project AWARE divers around the world will mobilize to collect trash and log what they find here on the Project AWARE website. This data will go on to inform researchers of the debris issues facing the ocean.
With a more accurate picture of what's happening in our ocean, we can begin to make better decisions around waste management and the policies that affect ocean life.
Dive Against Debris is designed to connect the actions of divers all the way up to decision makers.
We hope you - the dive leaders, volunteers and citizen scientists - will join a growing movement of scuba divers in 180 countries collecting and reporting the underwater trash you find to help protect the ocean against the onslaught of marine debris.
