The Adelaide City Council did not push through with their plans of increasing the charge for parklands hire because of promoters' threats to cancel their plans.

In line with inflation, the council has permitted rises in the general fee which means that charges for parking and admission in the Adelaide Aquatic Centre will increase.

According to Councillor Anne Moran, the proposed alterations for parklands fee would have been a dramatic increase since it would have involved time for setting up and dismantling events.

She said that the council will discuss with promoters before finally making a decision in the coming weeks.

"We are listening, we'll have another look at that. [It] doesn't necessarily mean that the council will change its mind but it probably means that they'll be adjusted in some way," Councillor Moran said.

The parklands charges are bothering the organisers of the Soundwave music festival in Bonython Park.

Promoter Sacha Sewell said that the fee for the use of Bonython Park for the February event may increase from about an estimated $3,000 to $100,000.

"This show may not come back to Adelaide. The disadvantage of course is apart from the near-million dollars that we're spending with South Australian suppliers we're also selling around about 10 per cent, so say 2,000 people of our tickets interstate, so we've got 2,000 people coming to Adelaide," Sewell said.
