Protester Moons Queen Elizabeth in Brisbane [PHOTOS]
Queen Elizabeth's royal visit to Brisbane for a tribute to flood victims drew tens of thousands of supporters, but one man's inappropriate display did not send Britons over the moon.
Twenty-two year old Liam Warriner exposed his backside to the Queen early during the tour of the Brisbane River on Monday. According to reports, an Australian flag was stuffed in his rear end.
Police said it is unlikely the queen saw the construction worker's backside.
It was a brash display that earned him the ire of many Englishmen. In an article posted by The Daily Mail, reactions ranged from the amused to furious Britons calling Warriner "disrespectful" and a "pervert".
"Disgusting repugnant behavior from this piece of trash, not only towards the Queen, but completely disrespectful to the fact that she is an old lady, as well as his total lack of respect for the Australian Flag," one comment from a former UK citizen said.
A representative from the police confirmed he is charged with public nuisance and willful exposure. He was released on bail Monday afternoon, and is expected to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday.
Despite the backlash, Warriner does not appear to be too bothered as he is taking it all in stride. "Everybody's seen someone's butt, come on," he said to The Courier-Mail. " You see it on TV all the time, you see it in movies, it's accepted in PG rated programming these days, but yet it's an offence to the Queen."
In his Facebook page, Warriner received words of support and offered some insight on his actions.
"The spirit of rebellion must rise in man if we are to overcome this elite corporate financial dictatorship we are currently selling our souls to," he wrote in his profile. "Otherwise nothing happens... nothing you may control anyhow (sic). Centralised control is what its (sic) all about. While minimising (sic) education, and when educating always maintaining the current status quo of power."
He told reporters he is participating in the Occupy protest in Sydney. Occupy Sydney is part of an ongoing global movement against inequalities and corporate influence.
