PS4 News: Upcoming Beta For PlayStation Vue And New Trademark Spotted
A lucky handful may already experience what PlayStation Vue has to offer, as invites have been sent for a beta run of the new feature. The new feature, which is supposedly an entertainment and TV service for those with a PS Plus subscription, has not yet been fully detailed by the company.
The beta invite for the PlayStation Vue can be seen in this link here. According to the invite, only a small group of select "PlayStation Plus members from New York City has been chosen to participate. From what can be seen in the screenshot, PlayStation Vue will supposedly provide live TV sports and movies, though the screenshot is cut off from giving more information.
This does give a lot of suggestions. PushSquare reports that the PlayStation Vue is meant collate all of your viewing needs via an interface that tailors your programs to your interests. There has also been word of 75 channels being available as part of the beta, but as far as figures are concerned, there's not price tag related to the feature as of yet.
Over at Reddit, fans have already started to speculate on what will come with PlayStation Vue. Other fans have, as expected, compared the new entertainment-inclined features to what Microsoft has aimed to do with the Xbox One.
"It looks like Sony is trying to do what Microsoft stated they would do with their Xbox One, i.e. taking a central place [in] your living room by providing other forms of entertainment than gaming. Except they are doing it like a Ninja," said Redditor saviboy.
Basically, fans are supporting how Sony is doing the rollout of features for its PS4. It has mainly started with games, adding in features of the PS4 that would enhance the gaming experience, as well as rolling out a number of exclusives and titles. Now, with the PS4 already on its second year in its lifespan, it appears that the company is starting to integrate a few more features beyond gaming, presumably to make the console even more relevant in the living room and beyond.
Speaking of teasers, another one involves a recent trademark that Sony has applied for. Titled "Mental Supplement," DualShockers has spotted the new trademark over at the Japanese Patent and Trademark Office.
Taking a closer look at the class it was identified with, the source states that the trademark is related to games and some electrical connectors. While no other detail has been provided, some speculations include a related hardware hinted by the patent. Some fans have also started to speculate that this maybe something related to virtual reality, given that there has been little new developments with the Project Morpheus.
This comes after another sighting of a trademark, also from the Japanese Patent and Trademarking Office, where a new logo of the PlayStation features headphones. PlayStation Enthusiast reports that speculations have risen involving the possibility of music or sound related to the new logo.
Sony has not released any statements about this, but given the timelines, another angle to look at this would be the possibility of the two recently-spotted trademarks being related to each other. Still, it's best to take these with a grain of salt until further developments are announced.
