Pyramid Rock has been cancelled. Organisers of the annual New Year’s Eve festival at Pyramid Rock, Phillip Island in Victoria announced that they are cancelling the 2013 event due to poor finances.

Citing “tough economic conditions,” the organisers opted to forgo the event for this year, assuring fans that they will be exploring new options for the festival to return in 2014.

“Inversion Productions, the promoter of the Pyramid Rock Festival, has regretfully advised they will not be proceeding the event in 2013,” a message on the festival’s Web site reads.

“First held in 2004, the multi-day camping music festival has gained an excellent reputation providing top entertainment for young music fans in a safe environment. Over nine years of operation the annual New Year’s Eve festival has hosted national and international artists from across the globe at a coastal property on Phillip Island.

“Due to touch economic conditions in recent years, the Festival has become unviable for Inversion Productions and their only option is to cancel the event. Options will be explored for the festival to return on a permanent basis in 2014.”

The Pyramid Rock Festival isn’t the only multi-day music event that faced financial troubles.

In 2013, the Big Day Out in New Zealand was canned after it garnered poor ticket sales for the previous year. It will return in 2014 with a solid line-up of international headliners, such as Pearl Jam, Arcade Fire, Blur, and Snoop Dogg (a.k.a. Snoop Lion).

Meanwhile, the New Zealand festival Rhythm and Vines has just added a second batch of artists to their line-up. It has named American rapper Wiz Khalifa to lead the second line-up, along with Kill the Noise, Ayah Marar, Stanton Warriors, DJ Zinc, and The Remains among many others.
