Qantas has announced today that it will be adding seven supplementary services between Melbourne and Queenstown, New Zealand to support demand over the peak summer periods and to coincide with the upcoming ski season.

The additional weekly flights will operate from December 18, 2010 until January 29, 2011. They were on top of supplementary flights added to support demand throughout the winter ski season.

As part of the increased winter schedule, an extra weekly service will operate between Melbourne and Queenstown, as well as between Brisbane and Queenstown.

A Melbourne to Queenstown flight will operate for 13 weeks between 27 June 2010 and 19 September 2010.

A Brisbane to Queenstown flight will operate for 13 weeks between 26 June 2010 and 18 September 2010.

Qantas regional general manager New Zealand and Pacific Islands Grant Lilly said the supplemental flights would coincide with the increase in leisure travel over the summer period.

"The extra capacity will benefit the New Zealand tourism industry and we are pleased to offer our customers an extra service each week on top of our existing three return services per week on the Melbourne to Queenstown route," said Lilly. "It will also help to encourage Australians to take their holidays in Queenstown."
