Qantas Plane with Northern Territory's Central Australian Officials Makes Emergency Landing in Darwin
A Qantas plane carrying all of the Northern Territory's Central Australian politicians had to turn back Friday morning as a safety precaution.
After experiencing a technical problem, Qantas Flight 1935 with 115 passengers aboard, turned around for an emergency landing in Darwin.
Northern Territory's Central Australian officials, including the Central Australia Minister Karl Hampton were on board en route to Alice Springs after this week's parliamentary sittings in Darwin.
The Qantas plane, which left Darwin at 7.30am, was making its way to Alice Springs when the problem struck.
ABC News reported the problem was with the landing gear, which would not retract.
Passengers expressed relief when they were unloaded safely upon emergency landing.
A Qantas spokewoman told ABC News engineers are now working on the plane at Darwin airport, and the flight will take off again after rectification of the technical problem. The spokeswoman told ABC Qantas will not provide anyone for interview about the incident today.
