Several passengers of Qantas may be forced to delay their flights once again as the airlines will continue to delay its flight schedules for the coming weeks.

Qantas confirmed that a meeting will take place on Monday to assess the problems in relation to flying its passengers in and out of Europe.

An estimate of 15,500 customers are already affected by the shortage of flights due to the recent volcanic eruption in Iceland that sent massive clouds of ash into the European airspace.

Olivia Worth of Qantas explained to the media that there may be possible delays in flights on the coming weeks and adds that some A380 airbuses will replace their 747 planes to fit more passengers on its flights.

Worth also explains that there is a possibility of putting additional flights, however, the plan is subject to review by the company executives.

"We're considering extra flights this week to ensure that we can get Qantas passengers on their way, whether from Europe or from Australia to London and Frankfurt," she said.

On the other hand, Singapore Airlines confirmed that it cleared its backlog of passengers in Australia and overseas.

"We have been bringing them home in the same manner we've been returning people to Europe," a spokesperson for Singapore Airlines said.

British Airways also targets a cleared backlog by the middle of the week.
