‘Quantico’ Episode 2 Highlights: New character arrives to thwart Alex Parrish’s attempt to find evidence [Spoilers]
ABC’s new series “Quantico” opened with the protagonist Alex Parrish (Priyanka Chopra) on the run after she becomes the main suspect in a major terrorist attack on the U.S. soil, post 9/11. The Episode 2, titled “America,” saw Parrish on a mission to clear her name. The episode, like the premiere episode and rest of the series, unfolds through two concurrent timelines: flashback and flash forward.
Parrish tries to find evidence, bid foiled by new character Nathalie Vazquez
The new episode of “Quantico” focuses on Alex trying to find evidence that would help her clear her name. As Liam O’Connor (Josh Hopkins) and his team try to track her, she tries to get into her apartment to find evidence to catch the actual culprit. Alex doesn’t get much time as Nathalie Vazquez (Anabelle Acosta), the former cop introduced this week, shows up to thwart her evidence gathering mission. Entry of this new character was hinted by Josh Safran, show creator and producer, after the “Quantico” premiere episode. He said that she will become an adversary of Alex.
Nathalie does not take long to show her dislike for Alex and the two get into a fight. Before the fight begins, Alex spots a secret compartment inside her medicine cabinet. The episode suggests that Nathalie may dislike Alex enough to frame her.
Alex thinks that e-mails between a hacker and his girlfriend are a valuable clue. Through hotel and plane reservations, they are possibly communicating in code. She tells Ryan Booth (Jake McLaughlin) that she is still convinced she was right about him from the beginning. Ryan confesses that he was married but it ended three years ago.
New FBI recruits engage in finding needle in a haystack
The new FBI recruits engage in an exercise at the Quantico headquarters. They are given the task of finding a needle in a haystack - sifting through replicated rooms of thwarted terrorists to find evidence needed to stop a make believe attack. This exercise is directly related to the present day fugitive Alex and her quest to clear her name, Buddy TV reported.
Elias Harper returns in Episode 2
Also, Elias Harper (Rick Cosnett) returns this week, and he is seen training to be an analyst instead of an agent. Ryan, according to assistant director of Quantico base Miranda Shaw (Aunjanue Ellis), is an undercover agent. He gets close to Alex - only to frame her for shooting him.
Liam O’Connor blames Parrish
Liam, meanwhile, wants to put the blame of the attack on Alex. A conversation between him and Miranda makes it clear that he had fallen in love with Alex at some point, but Alex had refused his proposal, Entertainment Weekly reported. Liam also has some news for Alex: her father did work for the FBI.
Mystery of twins Nimah and Raina
Nimah (Yasmine Al Massri) and her lookalike twin Raina decide who gets to leave the room and who has to stay under cover. “It’s based on a KGB tactic that was used during the Cold War as a way to…. Um, I actually don’t want to say any more, because I was about to give it away!” Safran teased earlier, TV Line reported.
Caleb Haas and Shelby Wyatt have something to hide
In another twist, Caleb Haas (Graham Rogers) returns in Episode 2 in a “surprising fashion,” and he is also lying about wearing glasses. Also there is something shady about his visit to Gaza. He was thrown out of the Quantico base due to his involvement in Eric Packer’s (Brain J. Smith) death.
Shelby Wyatt (Johanna Braddy) is a bit too vocal about not missing Caleb since he was kicked out. She is great with a gun and has suspicious contacts on her phone, which she is seen deleting in the episode.
“Quantico” airs at 10 p.m. Sunday on ABC in the U.S.
