Queen Elizabeth Sends Her First Tweet
It's truly a new era! Queen Elizabeth 2 has sent her first tweet using the account of the British Monarchy.
The queen was present during an information technology gallery opening on Friday in Science Museum in London. The exhibition is one of its kind with the technological advancement is put on display. The 88-year-old Royal used an iPad on the display table to send her first ever tweet, as told by E!News.
The tweet was accompanied by her trademark signature Elizabeth R. It was posted at 11:35 a.m. local time. The account was opened in 2009 and currently has 724,000 followers. This number is expected to shoot up due to the queen's personal involvement.
The gallery is holding all the specimen included in the evolution of information technology and communication. It covers all the aspects from electric telegraphy, broadcasting and telephone to satellite communications, the web and mobile voice and data networks.
The Science Museum Director Ian Blatchford invited the queen to unveil the gallery through her first personal tweet by commenting and elaborating on her stunts with the technical world. Many major events in the past showed Her Majesty's enthusiasm for the tech world such as her first live Christmas broadcast in 1957 and sending her first email in March 1976.
The Queen accepted the invitation graciously and removed her glove from one hand to send her first tweet much to the pleasure of Twitterattis around the world. His grandson Prince Harry is also quite new to this social media as he posted his first tweet to promote the Invictus Games in May this year. However, he commented later that he hates Twitter.
The event was attended by close to 600 guests. This gallery inauguration came in line with the upgrades applied to the museum. It will soon be followed by a new mathematics gallery, which is due in 2016 and medical history gallery to be opened in 2018, as told by the Guardian.
