Queensland floods cause temporary closure of aged care home
Severe flooding due to the Brisbane River breaking its banks has led the Regis Group to evacuate and temporarily close its New Farm Regis Corinya aged care home.
Like many homes and businesses in the area Regis Corinya is likely to sustain damage, the extent of which cannot be measured until flood waters subside and it is safe to re-enter the immediate area.
The 48-bed high care facility will remain closed until given the all clear by relevant authorities.
Severe flooding in the Gatton region has also led to the partial evacuation of the Regis Valley Views aged care facility.
Regis Group State Manager Steve Schultze said "The partial evacuation of residents from the Gatton facility is a precautionary measure given the seriousness of the situation.
"Some residents have returned home with their families whilst others have been evacuated to the nearby golf club. The remaining 22 residents at the facility are safe and well and remain in high spirits.
"Unless advised by local authorities to do so there will be no further evacuations from the facility.
"In regards to residents of Regis Corinya suitable alternative accommodation has been organised for every resident, the majority of who are being temporarily relocated to Regis Parkland Manor in Ferny Grove.
"Whilst this is an unfortunate situation the health and safety of our residents and staff is our primary concern.
Schultze said Regis has contingency plans for emergencies such as this.
"I would also like to reassure the families of our residents that all residents are safe and well and Regis' other facilities in Queensland are at this time operating as usual and there is no cause for concern," he said.
