Queensland floods delay grain movement
Floods in Queensland have brought transportation of grains by rail and road to a halt, GrainCorp Ltd (ASX:GNC), the country's largest grain handler said on Monday.
"We are unable to move anything by rail or, of course, road," David Ginns, corporate affairs manager at GrainCorp told Reuters, adding that transport of grain to port elevators from inland areas had effectively ceased, and the domestic distribution network had also been impacted.
Earlier this month, the rains which have delayed Australia's wheat harvest have lifted fears of mould contamination, with GrainCorp warning it had found significant levels of the vomitoxin in isolated grain samples.
GrainCorp said it was intensifying checks for vomitoxin after finding the fungal residue in six samples beyond upper limits typically specified by buyers.
U.S. wheat futures Wc1 rose more than 1 percent in early Asian trade on Monday, buoyed by supply concerns arising from Australia's record floods.
