The Queensland Government and the Opposition argued in a Parliament meeting today on a discussion with the State budget, which is yet to be delivered this afternoon.

The Opposition questioned the State Government debt, asset sales, and the Commonwealth's proposed mining tax.

Opposition Leader John-Paul Langrboek lambasted the government on the exclusion of resource tax during the budget's employment projection this afternoon.

“Is it a case that this budget is out of date before its even handed down?” he asked.

Treasurer Andrew Fraser said the modeling of the resource tax is still in the theoretical stage and should not be included in the discussions later during the budget session.

Mr. Fraser said this afternoon's budget will include strategies for population growth and jobs.

On the other hand, an online forum Rail Back on Track said commuters wanted an additional rail services to be discussed in today's state budget.

Robert Dow, administrator of the forum, said an additional rail will reduce road congestion, pollution, and road trauma.

“We'd like to see 30 minutes moved to 20 minutes, meaning that there'll be three trains an hour instead of two. We believe this will encourage more people to use public transport,” he said.
