Travellers can look forward for a much better access to Brisbane Airport as work on the bypass road to the terminal has been progressing well and first stage of the project should be unveiled within the next few days.

Queensland Premier Anna Bligh said on Thursday that as scheduled, the access road that would replace Brisbane Airport's roundabout should be completed by Christmas time.

Ms Bligh added that if the weather cooperates, the flyover's east bound lane would be opened for motorists use by Sunday night.

She said that a maximum of ten hours of dry weather should help the construction team to lay down the final touches on the flyover's soon-to-be-opened lane, which is mainly laying the final coat of asphalt and applying line markings.

So far, Ms Bligh said that the weather bureau has been sounding off encouraging feedback on the prospect of a fine weather, adding that "the weather bureau indicates they might be lucky and get that late Sunday afternoon and into the evening."

Hoping for a better weather in the next five days, the premier said that the motoring public, especially travellers heading for the Brisbane Airport, should be able to use the eastbound lane of the freshly-constructed flyover.

State Infrastructure Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said that the new flyover would considerably reduce the travelling time from the city to the Brisbane Airport, specifying that "this particular element will take eight minutes off a trip to the airport, which is a terrific benefit."

The best part, according to Mr Hinchliffe, is the airport flyover would provide for a fast, free and safe access road for use by motorists.
