A teenager from Queensland Australia is eager to continue her trek in Mt. Everest despite the avalanche that killed at least 13 Sherpas.

Alyssa Azar's attempt to climb the world's highest peak will make her the youngest Australian to climb the Everest. Azar, 17, from Toowoomba in Southeast Queensland, is among the climbers waiting at the base camp after an avalanche caused 13 deaths, three injuries and some climbers missing, ABC News reported.

The Australian teen is geared up to continue the trek of her lifetime despite the natural disaster that occurred on April 18. The avalanche that transpired near Mt. Everest's base camp is one of the deadliest in 8 years. The incident hit the famous route to the mountain peak early morning preventing hikers from continuing their trek.

While some climbers already abandoned their climb, Azar and other hikers were firm on reaching the world's highest peak. They said they would proceed with the trek after talking to the guides about the risks and the possibilities during the climb.

In her Facebook account, Azar said her hopes and prayers to the Nepali guides or Sherpa community.

"They're amazing, dedicated and very special people...They do what they do to assist us, and we are eternally grateful. This is a very sad time for all mountaineers and the Sherpa community," she expressed.

Although she was very saddened with the incident, she was still determined with the climb.

On her Web site, the 17-year-old from Queensland is a self-confessed adventurer. At a young age, she already traveled and climbed some of the world's highest summits, including Mt. Kilimanjaro and Australia's 10 highest peaks.

The young Australian had already been and completed Mt. Everest base camp when she was 10 and is now set to climb the mountain up to its peak. If ever, the climb will make Azar the youngest woman to ever climb Everest.

"I hope through all my work I can inspire and encourage other young people and people in general to get out and live their dreams and that nothing is ever impossible," Azar said about her mountain climbing endeavors on her Web site.
