Tamil movie industry's superstar Dhanush has made a super-hit entry in Bollywood. The actor's Bollywood debut movie Raanjhaana has received critics praise as well as commercial success at the Indian box office. The movie also stars Sonam Kapoor and the success of this movie has revived her dwindling Bollywood career.

According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, Raanjhaana has done excellent business of approximately 31.38 crore (INR) till Wednesday. The movie has recovered its production cost. Raanjhaana is also doing good business in the overseas market, including Australia and U.K. Koimoi.com reports that the movie has earned 7.8 crores (INR) in its first six days at the international box office. The site reports that the word of mouth is strong and is helping the movie's performance overseas as well as at the Indian box office.

Both critics and audience have been raving about Dhanush's power packed, natural performance. Prior to the release of the movie, the lanky national award winner was hoping that the audience will recognise his acting skills. The actor rose to overnight national and international fame with his Kolaveri song, written and sung by him.

South Indian actors haven't had much success in Bollywood despite enjoying superstar status in South. Legends of Tamil film industry Kamal Hassan and Rajnikath have done Bollywood movies but did not receive audience acceptance. Dhanush is married to Rajnikath's daughter Aishwarya. The talented actor might have a successful career in Bollywood unlike his illustrious father-in-law because Bollywood is changing and talented, skilful actors with ordinary looks are getting recognition and appreciation.

When asked why he selected Dhanush to play the role of Kundan in the movie, Aanand L. Rai, the director of Raanjhanaa, said to The Times of India, "I was looking for simplicity. I found it in him."

"He is spontaneous and fearless. He is complete heart, a great human being and a honest actor," the director said. "He will not speak out his emotion and will not confront his problem. He knows he is a good actor. He knows his pluses and minuses and manages to use his pluses beautifully. He is sure and secure about himself."

Dhanush believes that looks are not important in Bollywood and if it was, Raanjhanaa would not have been successful, according to a report published in The Economic Times. "I am nobody here, I can walk out on the streets and no one would even recognise me. So script is the biggest star, it is the hero. This film proves that no matter how big a star you are without a script the film will falter. Big stars can give you a big opening, but after that?," he said in an interview to The Economic Times.

Dhanush and Sonam Kapoor, have bagged an endorsement deal for soap brand Lux. "Sonam is a great style icon and Dhanush is an authentic romantic hero," Sudhir Sitapati, general manager of skin cleansing at Hindustan Unilever, told The Economic Times.
