Bollywood movie Raanjhanaa may not have taken the Indian box-office by storm like Ranbir Kapoor starrer Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani but it has done an excellent business in its release weekend. The film had a decent first day opening on Friday, collecting INR 5.15 crore at the Indian box-office, according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh. The movie picked-up on Saturday and Sunday riding on positive reviews and good word of mouth.

The movie collected INR 6.75 crore on Saturday and according to bollywoodcapsule.com, it has collected approximately INR 8 crore on Sunday. Koimoi.com reports that the movie weekend collections are around INR 19.90 crores. It has collected approximately INR 21.40 crore, internationally.

Raanjhanaa is the Bollywood debut of Tamil industry's superstar, Dhanush. The movie also stars Sonam Kapoor and Abhay Deol in an extended cameo.

A national award winner and already a name to reckon in the Tamil film industry, Dhanush has impressed both critics and audience with his natural performance. South Indian actors rarely get lead roles in Bollywood movies and they do not have a fan following in North India. The success of Raanjhanaa may change that and set a new trend. Dhanush rose to international fame when 'Why this Kolaveri Di', written and sung by him, became a hit on Youtube and social networking sites.

Shortcut Romeo, which released along with Raanjhanaa on Friday, has failed to attract the attention of the movie goers and is not expected to do profitable business.

Raanjhanaa has also been dubbed in Tamil and is scheduled to release on June 28, 2013 in 200 movies screens across Tamil Nadu. The Tamil version is called Ambikapathy.

The movie's future box office fate depends on how the highly anticipated, new releases Ghanchakkar and Lootera fare at the box office. Raanjhaana is expected to become a hit as it is doing good business at both multi-screens and single screens.Anand L. Rai of Tanu Weds Manu fame has directed this romantic drama and Himanshu Sharma is the writer. Swara Bhaskar and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub have also played key roles. Oscar award winner A.R Rahman has composed the background score and soundtrack.
