Rachel Weisz and Colin Farrell to Star in Sci-Fi Romantic Movie: ‘The Lobster’
Rachel Weisz will pair with Colin Farrell for the lead characters of The Lobster - the sci-fi romantic movie to be directed by Yorgos Lanthimos. The shooting of the movie is expected to start on March 24, 2014, in Ireland.
According to Variety, the Greek director will narrate an unusual love story in his sixth venture which is set against a troubled time in future. Apparently, it will be about a time when finding one's partner will be a deciding factor between life and death. Weisz and Farrell will also have Olivia Colman, Léa Seydoux and Ben Whishaw to work with in the movie.
Lanthimos has previously been nominated for the Oscars for his movie Dogtooth in the category of the best foreign language film in 2009. He said that he was "very grateful" for having the "opportunity" to be working with great actors like Weisz and Farrell, among others. The contribution of the actors is going to enrich the movie even more as it will "expand" the world they plan to create as well as explore, he said.
Last time we watched a Lanthimos movie was in 2011. His Alps premiered at the Venice film festival. Lanthimos has co-written the script of The Lobster, along with Efthymis Filippou whom he has collaborated frequently in the past. This film is going to be the first English language movie for the director.
Element Pictures, Scarlet Films and Limp are going to produce the movie which is planned to be sold at the European Film Market in Berlin by Protagonist Pictures. The team of producers of the movie includes Lee Magiday, Ceci Dempsey, Ed Guiney and Lanthimos. Andrew Lowe from Element is going to work as the Executive Producer. The movie is being funded by a number of organisations like Eurimages, the Irish Film Board, the BFI Film Fund, the Dutch Film Fund and Greek Film Center.
Weisz won the Oscars and the Golden Globe for The Constant Gardener, while Farrell won the Golden Globe for In Bruges.
