Rafael Nadal To Launch Wolverine-Inspired Kia Sorento At The 2015 Australian Open
Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal will reportedly launch a car inspired by the new "X-Men" movie. It will be unveiled a week before the 2015 Australian Open.
The second-largest car manufacturer Kia has chosen to unveil the all-new Kia Sorento at the 2015 Australian Open, according to statement posted on Kia NZ's official site. Kia is also the title sponsor of the said tournament. As Kia's brand ambassador, Nadal will make use of his star prowess when the car is launched just a week before the Grand Slam of the Asia Pacific takes place.
The Kia Sorento, dubbed as the X-Car is a collaboration between the Kia and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment to help promote the release of "X-Men: Days Of The Future Past" on DVD. Nadal will be starring in a video alongside other X-Men characters. Nadal will help the superheroes battle a team of mutants, who will threaten to bring chaos at the Australian Open. The video will be released in the middle of December.
The X-Car will be on display all throughout the 2015 Australian Open at Melbourne Park. The tournament will run from Jan. 19 to Feb. 1, 2015. After the tournament, the car will be shown in various motor shows all over the world.
The X-Car has claws like the Wolverine's. Another version of the car, without Wolverine's famous claws, has already been distributed in Korea. The car will be sold in Europe in 2015, the Irish Independent reports.
Nadal became the brand ambassador of Kia in 2006. The current World No. 3 has appeared in numerous campaigns for the car brand since the pair teamed up eight years ago. Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Hyoung-Keun Lee has said that Nadal embodied the perfect role to help promote Kia's "vibrant and distinctive image" all over the world.
In other news, Nadal is expected to return back in action at the 2014 Mubadala World Tennis Championship. Nadal is a two-time champion in Abu-Dhabi. The tennis star recently underwent appendectomy in November, making him miss the remainder of the 2014 season. He was forced to pull out of the BNP Paribas Masters in Paris as well as the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals.
