Fourteen-time grand slam champion has revealed that he doesn’t lose sleep thinking about how he can beat the other top-ranked tennis players like rivals Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer.

Following his straight-sets loss 6-3 6-3 to the World No. 1 Serb in the semifinals of the season-ending men’s tennis tournament at the O2 Arena in London, Nadal was asked if he thinks about how he can beat the other top guys during the off-season. The 29-year-old Spanish tennis star said he doesn’t think about the other players on tour when he is practicing. Instead of tormenting his mind trying to come up with different strategies or approaches to beat the world’s top-ranked tennis players, he focuses on further honing his skills to become better at the game. That is what his “personal motivation” is.

“Everyone has a different motivation,” Nadal said in London post semifinal match as transcribed by ASAP Sports. “I never practice thinking what do I have to do to beat Novak, what do I have to do to beat Roger - my motivation has always been just personal, that I want to improve myself, I want to be better, that's what I’m going to try to keep doing.”

Nadal, who earned his first win against a top-three opponent by beating Andy Murray 6-4 6-1 in London, hopes to have a better 2016 season. He also applauded Novak Djokovic for an amazing season. The Serb capped off the season by beating Federer in Sunday’s championship match of the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals 6-3 6-4 to claim his fourth trophy in the season-ending men’s tennis tournament.

Djokovic is “almost unbeatable” at the moment, according to Nadal. He congratulated the Serb, who won won 11 titles this season including appearances in all four grand slam finals, for amazing 2015 campaign and said it isn’t easy to stay at Djokovic’s level for five consecutive years.

“As I say before, the only thing you can do is congratulate him (Djokovic),” Nadal said. “But things are like this today, you never know what's going on in the future, I have been in very good situations a couple of times, then I get some injuries, things change - not everything is that easy.”

Nadal, with a win-loss record of 61-19 this season, is currently ranked World No. 5. He won three titles in the ATP World Tour 500 event at the bet-at-home Open and ATP World Tour 250 event at the Mercedes Cup and the Argentina Open.
