Rajon Rondo Demands Trade From Boston Celtics
Star point guard Rajon Rondo has demanded to be traded from the Boston Celtics according to Jackie MacMullan, a veteran sports writer from the Boston area.
McMullan made the claim over an ESPN Around the Horn YouTube upload last Aug. 27 saying that she believes that Rondo does want to leave the Celtics.
"It will happen because he's told them he wants out, and no one believes me but that's the truth," MacMullan said via the video. "And I don't see how you get 80 cents on the dollar for him. Tell me where."
The 28-year-old Rondo’s contract will expire after the 2014-2015 NBA season which means that the Celtics will most likely try to trade away their star point guard if they want to get value off him rather than lose him for nothing in the eventual 2015 free agency. Rondo is set to earn $12,909,091 in his final year in Boston.
MacMullan added that Rondo is not interested in re-signing with the Celitcs as well as with the Sacramento Kings, a team which was mentioned early in the 2014 offseason as one of the potential destinations for Rondo. Also mentioned was the Los Angeles Clippers and former head coach Doc Rivers but the Hollywood franchise already has a superstar PG in Chris Paul starting for that team.
The 6-foot-1 Rondo is still considered one of the top point guards not only in the Eastern Conference but also the entire league despite his brush with injuries in recent seasons. Rondo played in only 38 of 82 games in 2012-2013 NBA season and then just 30 games in the 2013-2014 NBA season.
Rajon Rondo has averaged 11.7 points, 5.5 rebounds and 9.8 assists in eight seasons with the Boston Celtics.
