‘Rake’ actress Adrienne Pickering misses playing Missy, reveals wedding plans
Australian actress Adrienne Pickering admitted that she misses playing her “Rake” character and would love to appear on the show again. The star revealed why she misses playing Missy and what keeps her busy these days.
The “Rake” TV series wrapped up its four-year run last year. The Australian Broadcasting Corporation has yet to announce if it will soon come back. Based on the past, though, the show does premiere a new season every two years. Season 4 concluded in July 2016.
In the critically-acclaimed Aussie series, Pickering played the role of Melissa "Missy" Partridge, a prostitute-turned-author-turned-drug addict. In the season 4 finale, Missy is pregnant with Finnegan Greene's child, while barrister Cleaver Greene (Richard Roxburgh) had secured a seat as an independent Senator into federal parliament.
Pickering admitted that amidst several characters she played in television and movies, it is Missy that she misses most. "I just love ‘Rake’ so much. Missy has been so polished at times, but she also has this great capacity to f--- everything up, like all the characters on the show. With Missy, you have hilariously over-the-top theatrical moments, and then your heart breaks with one beautiful, truthful scene. I love playing on the edge with Missy because behind it all is this incredible sense of loneliness and being betrayed," she told the Sydney Morning Herald.
For now, fans can catch Pickering in Nine Network miniseries “House Of Bond.” The actress will portray Eileen "Red" Bond, the fiery ex-wife of the late West Australian mining and media magnate Alan Bond.
The show will feature the rise and fall of the Bond patriarch, who won the America's Cup but then convicted and incarcerated over one of the largest corporate frauds in Australia. The “House Of Bond” sparked controversy after Ellen Bond slammed the show, calling it appalling. The two-part miniseries will screen on April 24 and 25 at 9 p.m. on Channel Nine.
Meanwhile, Pickering also admitted that she is engaged with Melbourne freelance filmmaker Chris Phillips. According to the actress, she and Phillips have been friends for a long time, sharing the same group of acquaintances. She added that she has been learning to surf with Phillips for two years now.
"We are trying to organise a wedding. At some point we will get married. We need some time to work out when we can do that," the actress said.
Aside from “House Of Bond,” Pickering is set to appear in the seventh season of “Offspring,” which is scheduled to debut on June 29 on Australia’s Channel Ten. “Rake” season 3, meanwhile, is now available on Netflix.
