Rapper Tru Life, born Robert Rosado was sentenced to 8 years imprisonment following his involvement on the death of a 20-year old man that stem from a brawl in a nightclub in June 2009.

Tru Life pleaded guilty to gang assault but it was his older brother, Marcus Rosado who confessed to stabbing Christopher Guerrero that led to his death in the fight that involved both of the Rosados. The convicted brother also wounded another man in the said incident.

While Tru Life got eight years in jail, his brother Marcus, who pleaded guilty to manslaughter, got a 10-year sentence.

Guerrero’s family condemned the sentences received by the Rosados, describing them as ‘light’

“Christopher, who was unarmed and defenseless was attacked,” the victim’s brother, Jason Ramirez was quoted as saying by the AP.

Ramirez added, We believe the system has failed us”.

The 39-year old Marcus Rosado expressed his regrets over the incident saying he and his younger brother, 35-year old Robert aka Tru Life, did not mean to harm their 20-year old victim.

The rapper’s lawyer, Alan Abramson said in a statement how Tru Life feels about the unfortunate incident.

“Robert is extremely saddened by what happened. Mr. Guerrero did not deserve what happened to him,” Tru Life’s lawyer said, according to AP.

Tru Life, noted AP was promoted as a ‘rising star’ by a Latin-oriented arm, called Roc-La Familia, which is affiliated to a label called Roc-A-Fella Records, co-founded by music mogul, Jay-Z.

The rapper added AP, rose to fame on mixtapes before he eventually landed on Jay-Z’s group. Raised in Manhattan’s Lower East Side, Tru Life had also made headlines having caught in fights with other celebrities and fellow rappers including Mobb Deep and Harlem-based rapper, Jim Jones.
