An 18-year-old Mexican single mother lost her baby to rats after she left her newborn to go partying on Monday night. She danced all night at a party in the town of Otumba, although she left Acolman on Sunday.

When she returned home on Tuesday morning to her house at 29 Avenida Labour in San Miguel Xometla, Acolman, Lizebeth Jeronima Fuentes Munguia discovered her 4-month-old daughter dead, reports MiMorelia.com. Rats nibbled her daughter’s face, fingers and body, says the attorney general of Mexico.

Munguia asked her neighbours’ help upon finding the shocking state of her daughter. Paramedics were called, but they pronounced the baby dead. She claims that she did not leave her baby alone but under the care of the grandmother.

Mexican police have yet to file charges against Munguia. However, they have arrested Munguia as well as the grandmother. The body of the infant was sent to Semefo for an autopsy.

In August, a 10-day-old Indian male infant was rushed to the Guntur Government Hospital in Andra Pradesh for treatment of a urinary tract problem. However, while confined at the hospital where hygiene is supposed to be practiced, a mouse gnawed the baby’s fingers and left eye while inside the intensive care unit, reports The Mirror.

But Lakshmi Chavali, the grieving mother of the baby, accused doctors and staff at the hospital of neglect which killed the baby and not a rat. Three health officials were suspended because of the incident.
