'Ray Donovan' Season 3 Spoilers, Cast, Plot & Everything We Know So Far
“Ray Donovan” season 3 premiered on Sunday, July 12, 2015 showing that the main character will be shown in a completely different light compared to last year. Donovan will experience both physical and emotional problems which will determine his behavior in the early episodes.
David Hollande, the new showrunner of “Ray Donovan” recently spoke with TV Guide to explain the main character’s behavior and current experiences. At the end of the second season, Donovan, played by Liev Schreiber, severed his ties with business associate Ezra, after the latter ordered the murder of Kate McPeherson, a Boston reporter. Ezra had to kill off McPeherson to protect their secrets from being published. Ray also kept himself away from his wife Abby after she had an affair.
Hollander shared that it was time to see Donovan respond to all the events that were happening to his professional and personal life. He is evolving as a father and a man. As an iconoclastic, the rules he set on himself will guide him in the following episodes. There will be consequences in his manner of failing to forgive people or forget their alleged sins against him. Because of these, he is forced to live in a completely different world, which explains the departure from his previous persona.
Andrew Finney, who will be played by Ian McShane, is a billionaire producer who will hire Ray to rescue his kidnapped son. Ray will be involved with Finney and his daughter Paige, to be played by guest star Katie Holmes. A number of situations will prevent Ray from being successful for a while.
The new season will not feature a lot of moments between Ray and his real father Mickey, Hollander revealed. However, the show will every now and then showcase the father-son dynamic. There will also be changes for Ray’s life at home with wife Abby. Between both of them, one has to make the decision to change or they risk losing the marriage completely. Most likely, it will be Abby who will adjust. Observer.com notes that Donovan’s savior complex will still be very much present as he tries to figure out his issues.
