'Red Dead Redemption 2' update: UK retailer leaks release date ahead of Rockstar Games' announcement

Not much might be known about the official story line or gameplay of “Red Dead Redemption 2,” but leaks about the release date have started to surface. The most recent of which is from UK retailer Gameseek.

The company has listed the release date for “Red Dead Redemption 2” as Oct. 20, 2017. This fits in with Rockstar Games’ official announcement that the title will hit stores on the last quarter of the year. Without the game developer’s stamp of authenticity, however, the listing cannot be taken as the whole truth. It could be nothing more than an estimation from Gameseek.

This is not the first time that a release date has been leaked by an online retailer. Earlier this year, another UK store claimed that “Red Dead Redemption 2” will be released in Oct. 2. It is highly unlikely that two UK-based retailers would be given different dates, but fans are now hopeful about an October release.

As Express UK has pointed out, however, an early October release might prove to be more effective for Rockstar Games, as other big titles are already scheduled in the latter part of the year. “Battlefront 2” and “Call of Duty” are respectively expected to hit the market by mid-October and November. Releasing “Red Dead Redemption 2” ahead of these titles might be a smart move for the game developer.

The publication also recalled that Rockstar Games does have a history of delaying games, albeit for just a month or a few weeks. As such, fans in high anticipation might be disappointed somewhere along the line. Nevertheless, details on the upcoming title are expected to start rolling out next month as Take-Two Interactive will be hosting its earnings report. It is expected that “Red Dead Redemption 2” and “Grand Theft Auto 5” will be part of the agenda.
