Red Hot Chili Peppers Kick Epic A**: Bassist Flea’s Open Letter to Fans, Admits Pretending at Super Bowl Halftime Performance [SLIDESHOW]

Flea can funk the hell out of the audience even when his bass is unplugged. Recently, the band Red Hot Chili Peppers had to face the repercussions of giving an "unplugged" performance of "Give It Away" at 2014 Super Bowl Halftime. Bassist Flea wrote and posted an open letter to his fans explaining why the members were faking the performance.

The renowned bass player of RHCP posted the letter on the band's website. He admitted that he faked during the band's song "Give It Away."

The letter opens and Flea comes straight to the point.

"When we were asked by the NFL and Bruno to play our song Give It Away at the Super Bowl, it was made clear to us that the vocals would be live, but the bass, drums, and guitar would be pre-recorded. I understand the NFL's stance on this, given they only have a few minutes to set up the stage, there a zillion things that could go wrong and ruin the sound for the folks watching in the stadium and the t.v. viewers. There was not any room for argument on this, the NFL does not want to risk their show being botched by bad sound, period."

The funk man, Flea also made it clear the Red Hot Chili Peppers stand on faking is that they would never do it. The letter also stated that RHCP had mimed only two or three times since the formation of the band. He was reluctant to fake the performance but later agreed.

"So, when this Super Bowl gig concept came up, there was a lot of confusion amongst us as whether or not we should do it, but we eventually decided, it was a surreal-like, once in a life time crazy thing to do and we would just have fun and do it."

The reports of Flea faking to play the bass surfaced when Vernon Reid, Living Colour guitarist tweeted about it.
