Redfoo To Represent LMFAO In Legal Battle Over YouTube's Third Most Viewed Video Song 'Party Rock Anthem'
LMFAO is currently in a legal battle against hip-hop artist Rick Ross over a line from the 2010 hit song “Party Rock Anthem” of the American electronic dance music rapper duo consisting of Stefan Gordy known as Redfoo and his nephew Skyler Gordy known as Sky Blu.
Based on the lawsuit filed by Ross against LMFAO, the line “everyday I'm shufflin'’” in the “Party Rock Anthem” lyrics is clearly derived from the line “every day I'm hustlin'’” from Ross’s 2006 single “Hustlin.’” For this, Ross brought a copyright-infringement claim and a trademark claim.
Ross survived the first round in the lawsuit on Feb. 6, when United States District Judge Kathleen Williams refused to dismiss the claims. In a motion submitted by the defendants, Redfoo is planning to solely represent the duo, which Ross’s camp has an issue with.
Meanwhile, the “Party Rock Anthem” music video is currently the third most viewed video of YouTube, which marked its 10th anniversary on Valentine’s Day. With more than 820 million views, the LMFAO hit was not able to beat Psy’s “Gangnam Style” music video with over 2.2 billion views and Justin Bieber’s “Baby” music video with over 1.1 billion views.
The music video of “Party Rock Anthem,” which also featured featuring Lauren Bennett and GoonRock, was posted on March 8, 2011. Watch the video here:
