Regenocyte defends use of adult stem cells to treat Major League pitcher, Bartolo Colon
Major League Baseball pitcher, Bartolo Colon, left professional baseball in 2009 with pain in his right shoulder from a rotator cuff tear. Instead of accepting a life without baseball, Colon accepted an invitation from Regenocyte's medical director, Lionel Liriano M.D., to undergo adult stem cell therapy in his home country of the Dominican Republic.
For this treatment, doctors extracted bone marrow and fatty tissue from his hip, put it through a process which concentrates the stem cell and then re-inserted them into his shoulder. The adult stem cells then work on healing and regenerating the damage caused by the sports injury, facilitating recovery that otherwise may not have been possible.
Regenocyte is considered a pioneer in adult stem cell therapy, successfully treating patients with heart, vascular, pulmonary and other serious diseases. Regenocyte does not use embryonic stem cells.
"Adult stem cells can do remarkable things," said Dr. Zannos Grekos, Chief Medical Officer, Regenocyte. "We are very pleased with the outcome of this therapy to treat orthopedic injuries, particularly in a case like Colon's where his livelihood is at stake. We stand by the treatment and welcome any scrutiny into the protocol used. It's one that is used in the United States to treat many different types of sports injuries, arthritis, and other orthopedic issues."
Since returning to the Yankees this season, Colon has an impressive 3.16 ERA, has made five starts and 48 strike outs, and is back to throwing 95 mph pitches.
Dr. Grekos periodically conducts seminars to educate the public about adult stem cell therapy. For more information, call 1-866-216-5710 or visit www.regenocyte.com.
